Born as the eldest child in his middle class family, he has grown up to be caring and understanding person sometimes taking responsibility in part for well-being of his younger sisters. As he went through his school years, he was told that he tended to take care of things by the rules. He majored in molecular biology as undergraduate, and he graduated with master’s degree of European Union studies in environmental and climate change policy. Then, he built up the career further captivated in the charming views of the polar area, Arctic and Antarctic region, expanding his major into the area. He has done an array of research, mostly on environmental and climate change policy in Europe as well as Arctic region. He has been known for developing research subject that no one in his major area has ever tried before. And he has been credited for such novelty in his works, which led him to be a member of a presidential advisory body of National Carbon Neutrality of South Korea in 2020. He believes in the fact that research out of curiosity produces far better fruitful results than research started off with only desire. And he is ensured that the curiosity is the driving force that has made him who he is and, is what he seeks to do for down the road as researcher.

He joined the editorial board of Polar and Cold Regions Research on August 20, 2025, as an editorial member.
